We are stopping in Christchurch
Hi
Thought I would tell you my story on Tuesday s Earthquake.. We only arrived 3 months ago from the Midlands UK..
I am a nurse and was working in a private hospital in central Christchurch. At 12.50 I was sitting at my desk contemplating my lunch when suddenly there was an almighty bang and my office started shaking violently. I darted under my desk as my computer came crashing down with all my files and folders . I could hear screaming from the nurses and patients. It only lasted a few seconds but seemed longer then I dusted myself off checked if everyone was OK and surveyed the damage .. Then the second one came and I was hit by falling masonry. I only sustained a small cut..
However even with this happening to me I will not be leaving. We have such a better quality of life here and have done things we would of never done in the UK. My view as a nurse is that life is for living.. You never know what is round the corner so live for today !!
Since the quake I have seen so many acts of kindness by Canterbury people They are pulling together and helping each other. It brings me to tears sometimes
My point being ,Its entirely up to you if you are thinking of living in Christchurch. Yes you have to live with the fear that another quake may strike but you may get hit by a bus too !!!.
But I think Christchurch is worth it

Thank you for sharing your story, it sounds so frightening. So glad you were ok.
I think it's been wonderful to see the community pulling together and the nation as a whole. Christchurch will rise again and you should be very proud to be a part of that. Good on you.

So glad that you are ok. A very brave decision but one that seems to be coming through again and again. Good on you - now just stay safe!

We leave Britain today after a lifetime in Surrey. We arrive in Auckland on Monday 28 Feb for a week. We were due to fly to Christchurch on 7 March. Not much of Christchurch left to fly to. Oh well. Better stay in Auckland for a bit longer.
