Watching the Cricket?

Good work Ireland: ICC Cricket World Cup 2015: Ireland beat West Indies - BBC Sport

I do enjoy it when a team flips the script.

I was watching the NZ - Scotland game and I never cease to watch a cricket game when its sunny in NZ without thinking they look like the most idilic place cricket grounds. Just absolutely charming.

I don't know if it was the Kiwis taking Scotland for granted but if that's how they bat, bring them on!

Going on about Ireland, that's 3 times now Ireland have beaten a major force in the cricket world cups, yet they still have to qualify. When will the ICC start taking note of them? They're arguably better than Bangladesh who I believe don't have to face any qualification matches.

Looking forward to Fridays match in Wellington. I just hope the authorities in the custard bowl sell something else than Tui! Thankfully it was portaloos only at Hagley Oval, which prevented me from being tempted in buying the stuff.

*mumbles* I am cheering for NZ over England *unmumble*

I am really enjoying this world cup so far, there's been some great performances. Bit average NZ batting against Scotland but then Scotland bowled the good balls. Ireland have been awesome and I LOVED South Africa scoring 146 of the last 10. That was amazing.

*mumbles* There's been nothing much for England fans to cheer about if we're honest. Since they fired Pietersen the batting has been consistently mediocre.*unmumbles*

I think it would be unkind of us not to cheer for New Zealand anyway.

Am I seeing this correctly?

English people choosing to support New Zealand over their country of birth???? The country that gave them everything to have the opportunity to move here?

I presume then you'll all be supporting the all blacks instead of England in the rugby? In fact whenever England play New Zealand in any sport, or an english/British competitor is against a kiwi, you'll support the kiwis???

Marcel Desailly always supports Ghana over France.

Can't believe I've read this. I thought those supporters I talked about at the Crusaders v England match at the rugby were a one off. Obviously not

Unless of course your Scottish, Welsh, Irish or Northern Irish :)

Not me. I will always support England. I don't understand how you can suddenly start supporting another country just like that. Smacks of weak moral fibre to me :sneaky:;)

Re: Watching the Cricket?

Yes I do cheer for the All Blacks over England and yes I do cheer for NZ over England in pretty much all the sports I watch. I don't really feel the need to defend this. Its sport, not war and I am not beholden to a particular patch of planet in deciding who I can and cannot support.

Anyway, people can feel differently if they like and more power to them I don't have any issue with that.

I do have a question for you though Blade

What about us who have youngsters born in this country who are NZ citizens?

I'm sorry to offend you from this rant but i'm having to teach my youngsters to support New Zealand. It is not easy at all! I'm glad he's too young to come to the cricket on Friday but that time will come when Daddy is hoping for a severe Kiwi beating by the English and youngsters are hoping for a NZ win over England. They were born here, therefore they must support New Zealand. I'd even do the same if they were born in Australia or USA (although the Ryder Cup would have special treatment). I do hope they don't catch the famous All Black blame culture that the deluded All Black fans have. Otherwise i'll be known as a racist since us English sing swing low during their haka. Awww diddums, cry me a river!

Of course, it's always England for me. We have a chance but if Broad and Finn in particular continue to bowl short deliveries leg side to the likes of McCullum, Anderson and Taylor - we could be in for a long day. Plus we struggle with the bat for some silly reason. We just don't seem to be able to smack quick runs like your top 3 of NZ, South Africa and Australia can do. We wouldn't score 106 runs off 70 odd balls like the Australians did against us.

Re: Watching the Cricket?

Are you seriously telling me that being born in a geographical location should take precedent in being the single deciding factor in supporting a team? You might want to rethink that approach.
