Watch out!The Gifford tribe are on their way!
.Hello everybody.PSS have been and taken away what belongings we,re shipping out, which wasn,t stressfull to say the least "liar"shouts the wife.Flights are booked for Nov 14th .We arrive in NZ on the 18th .Can anybody tell me what are the procedures for renting ,ie what documents we need to show etc ? As the good lady starts work in Waikato Haospital in Dec we are looking to rent in Hamilton .Are there any districts that we should avoid renting in ?.Myself ,the Good Lady and our four kids can,t wait to arrive and start this massive adventure.Cheers Big Ears.
PS Is it true that New Zealanders don,t appreciate or understand the British sense of humour ?

Don't know about renting-loads do though. And pm Karonious or Stevie B. They'll advise you on Hamilton.
Glad it's nearly there for you-best of luck with your adventure!

We rented our dump very easily. You don't need to show anything. You will have to post a bond and pay a couple of weeks in advance. Do not sign anything committing to an annual tenancy. You should be looking for a periodic tenancy. This way you may leave on three weeks notice. However, it may prove to be more difficult to get a tenancy on that basis. We stuck it out and committed in the end to a six month tenancy and then periodic after that. In our case it worked out as we had to wait a few months for tax planning purposes to bring more money with us and then we spent the time sorting out what we wanted to buy and where. While housing here is often shocking, it may be worthwhile to rent for a bit until you are familiar with the area you are settling in.

See you in Hamilton in January. Stevie B said avoid Enderley. How old are the children? Ours are 10 and 3. We've enrolled the 10 yr old into Hillcrest Normal School. We've gone round the schools' websites to decide where to try and live.
Good luck

Yes Emma (10) doesn't want to leave her friends behind.
Sophie (3) doesn't really mind where she lives, but NZ has bubbling mud and penguins
Keep in touch

we had a nightmare trying to get her to settle into school here,so be prepared....she dug her heals in and tried to fight against it....but got there in the end about 6 weeks of tears and tantrums and now shes quite happy at school, doesn't miss her friends anymore.still get "i want to go home "
occasionaly but other than that shes quite happy......its a hard age to move them.....
she takes bad with the fact kids here don't really socialise after school....unless they are sporty and go to clubs, which she isn't....back home she would be away out with friends,we came from a small rural town where everyone knew everyone,so for them to go to a big city like auckland its quite daunting....even though we are in a suburb its still a big place....but gl

Luckily the three boys are very sporting football, cricket etc. We,re hoping that once we are out there as it,s more of an outdoor social life Harry will settle down as back in Bristol "he goes out more than the gas."Katie the youngest is a tom boy anyway so fingers crossed everything will be ok
