Re: Warning re internet ordering from M&S
You know what i love about this place, its the amount of maons you get from ex pats complaining about NZ and how it over taxes people or how it is too expensive to live here, dont get me wrong I have some issues with NZ but none that are so dramatic that it would make me dislike the place. I have bought a few things from over seas places, M&S, Bookdepositiory, MandM .............. the list goes on, luckily we have always been under the threshold to pay GST, but that is also down to checking before we ordered stuff to make sure we would not get hammered by it,
Surely people have to take some level of responsibility for their own actions rather than whinge on about NZ and how bad it is, it is not the land of milk and honey nor is it a place where you can buy a small country estate for tuppence as is a perception from others abroad, but in general terms it is to me and this is only my personal opinion miles better than the UK to live and bring up kids

I see from another post you feel miffed about being unable to give blood here....maybe there are sound cautionary reasons for that....if they were short of blood they would presumably relax the rules so things must be ok.
I realise I should have checked first...it's especially annoying as I ordered a few extra items thinking I might as well as paying the postage anyway (it is fixed 15 quid) with M&S.
It still seems a large proportion of the value of the total order especially given the extra fees added on last year.
It took 4 attempts before the phone was answered to pay as well this morning....was constantly engaged.....it has deterred me from ordering from abroad for the rest of my time here and I expect that is what the NZ Government wanted. It's not worth paying the postage on sth that stays below the threshold.

Blame is easier…if I where back in the UK I’d be married to a super model, live in a mansion and be invited to go to tea with the queen once a week. Instead I’m stuck here with a farmer’s daughter, living in a sack and being invited to sausage sizzles.

You're lucky!
I don't even get invited to sausage sizzles.

This thread is talking about the import of GST exempt goods so the only direct comparison is the non EU purchase in the UK.

Well it means it's not really economically viable to order goods from your favourite UK supplier, so each to their own, if you think that is the right balance, I don't.
It's yet another example of making immigrants feel imprisoned in fortress NZ with limited access to outside world .
All I actually wanted was a pair of slippers for goodness sake (and no I can't find any I like here at any price, not even in Kirks).

If you wanted a pair of slippers you could have bought them and paid no import duty at all. As others have said you can order up to £110 (including Delivery at 2.05$/£ without paying any duty at all.
I think the rip off here is with M&S remember you are entitled to buy things without VAT but M&S charge you the full UK price. This means not only are you paying £15 for delivery but you are paying a 20% premium over the UK customers.
A number of shops don't do this and with them you pay the ex VAT price (i.e. 20% cheaper)

That's what personally means!! it's just my personal opinion.

Maybe one has to claim back the VAT element oneself. Other than that it's challenge M&S about their VAT book-keeping.
Of course, they may well be inflating their prices for the overseas market.

Every UK supplier I've bought car parts from knows that they don't charge VAT for export and they just don't add it it the bill. I'm sure it's the retailer's responsibility.
I assume the M&S website hasn't been properly designed to handle overseas orders.

From their website http://www.marksandspencer.com/VAT-I...elp/b/55000031
----------
Do prices include VAT?
All prices for goods and services delivered within the European Union include VAT where applicable. The VAT charged will be either VAT in the country of delivery (rates will vary by country but our prices remain unchanged) or UK VAT.
For goods and services delivered outside the European Union VAT is not charged although the price shown on the website remains unchanged.
-----------
So they admit there is no VAT charged but the price remains the same, hence you are paying a 20% premium.

Marks and Spencers really don't deserve any international customers at that rate and should be boycotted: for heaven's sake 20% is a huge premium and a bloody lot of money to rip-off from every overseas order - robbing gits!!

Re: Warning re internet ordering from M&S
Could someone in the know advise whether i would have to pay GST and the Customs transaction charge on a golf club from the states valued at US$ 180 or would it pass though without any additional charges. Many thanks in anticipation.
