Everyone keeps telling me that these endless torrential downpours are not usual. Being new to this country I have no way of knowing.
Should I believe them?

The nice thing though is that you can usually get a rainy day followed by a lovely sunny day at any time of year...not looking good for Labour Weekend though...

Just been up to a mates house & someone had told someone else , who had told someone else, who had passed it on, based on good sound knowledge, that it would now rain for 9 days.
Mind you, the original purveyors of this watery news were brandishing divining rods and other paraphernalia at the time.

Send us some! Haven't had proper rain here in years
we also just had a major heatwave and farmers are burning straw these days, they always do this just when the weather starts turning pleasant
So basically, at night, it's hot and there's a smog of smoke you can barely see through
But I don't like thunderstorms though
you get some very nice weather very soon.
Oh, my windows weather widget tells me Christchurch is 4 degrees c at the moment, is that accurate? It also tells me Cairo is 31 c but it feels like more

More WAIN this evening.
We've given up on the lawn area as the ducks have made it a therapeutic mud bath. I think me spuds have drowned and no greenhouse raising in all this.
for the weekend

...and today we have WAIN and thunder rumbling around.
This is all good for me , as otherwise I would have to continue to weed the garden.

I think this 'Dunedin is windy' must depend on where you live?
we have been here 5 years now and having come from the west coast of cumbria would say the wind here is minor.
If you live looking down the harbour on either side near the coast or on an exposed hill (shit that most of dunedin!) then I guess the wind might be more noticeable. But for us its just not an issue. It really isnt an issue on a day to day basis.
Not an issue such as it is in VERY windy wellington.
Winter here can and is cold but also id say has far more t shirt wearing sunny days than I can remember in the uk.
cheers

... and today there is more WAIN
.
It is a bit more like drizzle really to be honest with a cloudy sky which I quite like as I also get to see the clouds on the Ranges & it means I don't have to stick the everlasting sunglasses on me conk.
I'm hoping it clears up later on as Mr BEVS has a few days leave from work & I have a listy of garden jobs waiting .
