Default visitors visa

hi
just wondering how long is it you get when you come as visitors.
i thought it was 6months, but have noticed couple mentions here and there about 3 months.
just to give us better idea of how long we have for touring around before the job hunt really starts.
cheers
Eileen

Hi wonder if anyone can help. We are coming over on th 27th April for good, but we are having our first visit from a friend in august (for 2mths) and she has been told she would have to pay for a visa? is this right or is it the air line company trying to get more money out of her?
