Visit Feb 2017 for 5 weeks

We are visiting NZ to do a re con to see if it is for us.

Visiting Friends in Welly first before, seeing ( in no particular order) Nelson, Napier, BOP, Auckland and Christchurch.

About us....We are 45 and 46, kids away at uni (my step kids) and no other family commitments. We grow our own veg, heat our house with a big log burner, not interested in shopping, fashion, technology and drive an old Japanese car. Enjoy the simple life!

We acknowledge it's a big lifestyle change if we do move, don't want to look back and say if only. Husband said he wishes he'd tried it years ago.

Should not have a problem with visa, Mr is a mechanical engineer, 20 + years experience, over 10 of them as a manager. Has a PGCE to teach/ train and wants to stay in this field.

Can anyone suggest any ways we can use our time wisely while in NZ, please? Any suggestions for good employment agencies, companies to approach? Or anything that you think we should do?

Thanks all

Hi, I'm also an Engineer. Personally, I would avoid agencies and go direct. Make a short list of consultants or client organisations in the field of engineering you are interested in. Check the websites for job adverts or just get in touch and say when you'll be over and can you arrange a meet up. Might need to make a couple of attempts to get through to the right person but it seems to me most engineering firms here are always on the lookout for experienced staff. Avoiding the agencies means the employer doesn't have to pay the recruitment fee which is massive!

Also if you know someone.. Always helps.

To use your time wisely, don't be a tourist. Seems a daft thing to say to someone coming to visit but your time will pass quickly and you don't want to waste it.
Granted you need some time out of the schedule to enjoy the country but in all honesty this is a recce as a potential move so you need to concentrate on that aspect of it.
You can be a tourist when you're living here.

Agreed, we have booked only one tourist attraction!

5 Weeks is a short time so we are staying away from many of the main tourist traps.
