Great news. I thought the woman from Belarus looked far too much like Bill Oddie.

Such a shame that Val did not get to stand on the podium and hear the New Zealand National Anthem being played because a cheat had tested positive and deprived her of this experience. How sad but well done to Val :thumbsup:

The girl from Belarus threw well above her weight in the competition which was suspicious at the time.
Shame val and New Zealand was not able to celebrate a gold in style but all respect to her for being a true champion and role model

Re: Val Gets Gold

Is it still the New Zealand olympic team organisers fault that she didn't throw as well as she could have?

Good on the IOC for stripping the Belarussian from the gold.

I was dead chuffed for her this morning and then I thought how sad that she didn't get to stand on the podium and all that. Anyway, well done Val!

I think there's a move to give her the medal at the Bledisloe Cup test at Eden Park. If so, that would probably be a good alternative.

It'll drag on for a long time, the Belorussian girl will contest the findings, that will go to a hearing that could take god knows how long.
It took Nick Willis two years to get his medal when he was denied by a drug cheat, lets hope this one is settled a little quicker

Maybe the case but she has been out throwing Val all year, has she been cheating all year or just this time ?

Apparently her form increased dramatically this season, so much so that Vals trainer had raised concerns in the past.
Steroids dont just kick in, you take them for a period of time to maximize the effect then stop taking them before competitions
hopefully to get them out of the system for testing

Apparantly her throws dropped by 2m (to mid 19m), when she attended Rome 4mths ago and was tested by non-Belarissuan testing labs, then returned afterwards...

Sorry but her testing/performance footprint suggests drugs before the actual testing at the Olympics IMHO...

Her performance isn't the biggest issue IMHO but that the Belarussian drugs testing regime seems to have large and repeatable holes in it.

About time they delayed the Olympic medal award ceremonies until the drugs testing results are in. Modern testing seems to take about a week - which is much shorter than it used to be, the games could have a few days padding at the end (charity matches etc???), before the final medal awards and closing ceremony.

Then a much higher % of medals would be awarded to the correct competitor AND the onus of any action is placed onto the competitor who failed the tests as they never get awarded the medal in the first place....which seems more natural justice???
