Ok, we're a family of 4 in a 3 bed house.

Electric - average $170 a month (we're fairly frugal and that figure won't keep a house to a UK-level of house warmth but we're used to the houses being colder now. Also that would probably be higher in a colder part of the country)

Gas - some places have mains gas but not many, we don't

Water rates - we pay $50-60 a month

No council tax as such, instead it's rates for homeowners. Ours are $144 a month (it's calculated according to estimated house value).

Phone - we have phone + 80gb of Internet for $85 a month

Tv - no tv licence. We pay $60 a month for Sky (various packages available)

Road user tax, you pay car registration, for a regular car it's about $285 a year. I think it's about a hundred more for a 4x4.

Other stuff - insurances? We have house + contents + 2 cars for $185 a month.

That's all our regular bills.

Except that the Landlord includes it when calculating the rent to charge.

some do some don't.

I know a friend here on the North Island had a bit of difficulty insuring her newly bought home after the July Earth Quake here, but did finally manage it.

If you are renting you would only insure content so that may help
