Hi everyone
We're starting out on the road to NZ and are after some feedback - good and bad.
We are contermplating using an agent to help us get the visa. Any advice on who to use good or bad gratefully rec'd.
Thanks

Best advice you'll get on here is
Don't use an agent
Unless you have some wierd condition or difficult situation, then an agent will give you no better advice than you will get on here - and people here don't charge you a fortune!!
I would start the ball rolling by checking out if you have enough points on the NZIS website and if you feel ready, send in your EOI and wait for the rollercoaster ride.
You will find all you need to know here on these sites. If you feel that your situation is a little more difficult then you could always employ an agent later but I doubt you'll need to.
We got PR without an agent and it was pretty simple. (well the wife did most of the paperwork
Good luck (and save your money for NZ)
Cheers
Dave

However, without the consultant initially we wouldn't have got this far so I for one am glad of his help and guidance and at least we have a rock solid contact who knows the system inside out upside down to rely on.
Can pm you the details if you want to check it out for yourself.
Hope all works out ok for you

Re: Using emigration agents
Saw your email and had to reply.
My mum emigrated to NZ 5 years ago and used an agent, it cost a lot!! We are following her and are going it alone, no agent, just using the NZIS site and muddlin through!!
(You can call the IS for any information or if your stuck and cant find it on the web site,(we have loads of times!!!) it doesnt cost a lot to call and they answer your queries quickly).
No problems as of yet apart from getting info from previous employers!
Save yourself the cash for the leaving party!! Do it yourself! Dead easy, just need to be patient.

Re: Using emigration agents
I am another one in the "do it yourself" camp.
Start out by registering with the NZIS website and doing the online points check.
If you have enough, then go on to the EOI section and fill out the form (can take a couple of hours). If you are unsure or can not complete it, then you can save it and come back to it at another time.
It is fairly strightforward and if you can get through that stage, then the rest of the paperwork is a breeze.

Re: Using emigration agents
With the knowledge we have now I wish we'd done it all alone, however we knew zilch so we engaged the services of an agent just to initially points check us and also provide us with a 2 hour evaluation (this cost about £200) - for us it was well worth it. The agent was more interested in selling their services and the country to us, but we just kept getting them to talk about the actual process. From this we were able to get an upto date understanding of all requirements and from hereon we did it alone. We also spent (and would recommend spending) a fair amount on a few really good books and magazines about emigrating to NZ/emigrating in general (so this is another £50 maybe), but for this amount of money you can be really well informed from reliable source. This website is brilliant before, during and after the process.
Good luck

I agree with the above comments - the process is not that difficult, just collecting paperwork and being organised. Not worth the thousands that agents charge IMO.

I did all ours and we got PR. We've been here 9 months. Save the cash.
