The use of Maori language. Te Reo.
G'won then.
What do we think or feel about all of this in a way.
It is an official language of New Zealand . A huge lot is done to promote this and bring it into everyday use ,yet it is deemed inappropriate for some areas of NZ. The national airline for instance.
Surely if you want to see this in everyday use, making it an integral part of NZ discourse , then a good footing is also for NZ companies to be able to use it too. After all we are supposed to be one land, one people and one nation - aren't we ? and no-one seems to mind a multi pakeha/maori rugby team doing a haka. Or schools having a kapa haka. Make the mind up NZ nation. You either want this language in every day use or you do not. Not just when it suits.

Funny how only McDonald's and KFC are running subtitles on their TV adds
honestly couldn't care less.
if folk want to learn it that's fine, if they don't, that's fine, but those who do don't need to hassle those who don't and vice versa

To have any impact it needs to become business as usual to use Maori names, add Maori subtitles and greetings or whatever everyday rather than just paying lip service and pretending everyone cares for one week of the year.

One of my kids is training to be a teacher and has to learn basic Maori to pass.
He greeted a Maori lady going through the drive through the other week and she tore him a new one because someone like him shouldn't speak her language.
So you tell me is it worth trying to promote it if they don't appreciate you even trying.
