US government shutdown?

US government shutdown?
Possibly the wrong branch to post this, but wanted to hear what anyone thinks.
On the face of it, America seems the maddest country in the world.
But how they have got themselves into a situation where, on the face of it, the government is going to stop paying "non essential" government employees.
And all because of their bonkers politics.

From what I understand, bonkers politics is the reason.
Playground party politics, they need their heads banging together. To threaten and go through with an enforced closure because you don't like a particular bill that has already gone through is childish.
I feel sorry for those who are going to be forced to take unpaid leave over this, some of those may well not have a safety net. Hope the banks are understanding. And we don't know for how long either
On a more frivolous note-how many people have paid good money to come over as tourists only to find they cannot visit the National Parks or monuments they really wanted to see. It really does not show politics in a good light, I try to avoid American politics as much as possible
Though Mr S is paid from NZ, he works within an American government dept which means he is likely to return home very soon, they will even take all their keys off them At least he will get paid.
Our original plan was to get out of here but with all the Parks closed it's probably not worth it. We're too far away from anywhere to go without being able to see the stuff we want to. He is so pissed off with this place he even looked at flights to Canada for tomorrow, less than a week after we flew back from there They're too expensive

Isn't this all to do with the republicans completely against Obama's health care plans?
The same republicans that are 100% behind Spyro the Dragon being blamed for some idiot going on a killing spree?

I read that this morning, a nice simple guide to it all! However it's an impossible task to make it sound like a reasonable way for politicians to run a country
Because it might be Socialism
We are driving to Canada tomorrow

Re: US government shutdown?
This is the exact question I asked my friend when she was over from the States recently.
She has been living in the US for over 10 years and has tried explaining our NZ health system to friends and healthcare colleagues but ( speaking generally ) they simply equate socialism with communism. She had to quickly learn to shut up, as people were referring to her as " the commie". She and her American husband are closet democrats, they have to be very very careful with what they talk about with even their closest friends who are republicans.
They can't imagine Americans ever re-adjusting, due to their paranoia about Reds under the Beds.

It's like a couple who spend more than they earn agreeing to buy a new sofa but one wants to save and the other to borrow. It's not an agreement unless they can agree on a funding model, it's just an aspiration.
Neither side deserves credit in this.
