Re: Unfamiliar Expressions
This made me laugh, especially as I haven't been in NZ to fully adopt some of them. I've heard most of them, but it does depend on the environment you work in a lot - construction, forestry, etc.
I particularly like how everything is 'golden', I always refer to things as 'sweet as' now, I refer to vacuums not 'hoovers', I sit on a couch not a settee, I eat dinner not tea, I boil a jug not a kettle, I eat lollies not sweets, I eat ice blocks not ice lollies, I eat chips not crisps, I also eat hot chips not just chips and apparently I amuse everyone at work with my accent ( broad Yorkshire ).
I aim to open a retail store one day, bringing together all aspects of soft beddings and calling it 'Manchester United'
Above all else, remember one thing - 'she'll be right'

I grew up in Wakefield. I insist to kiwis that I don't have an accent and this is also how the queen really speaks.

Re: Unfamiliar Expressions
I got a bit of a giggle today, I overheard a guy calling out in lisping camp queen style: 'And so, how was the sex for you hun?'
I was trying on the size twelves in the next cubicle.

Re: Unfamiliar Expressions
or just 'coolies' for short.
Another one that's a bit of a throwback to the olden days that I hear a said quite a lot 'He/she just about had a conniption'.
'That's pretty stink.' Pretty much everything is non-committal or moderated downwards to be pretty something or another.

I have picked up the habit of saying things are flash or not flash. I blame the other half.
