Variety is poor if we don't want to cook from scratch. Sometimes with a busy life, we just want something quick and convenient, especially for the kids. Being mostly Veggie in our house there is jack shit here from any of the rip off four! I don't understand why its accepted by the average Kiwi to pay through the nose for everything. But ignorance is bliss I guess and I am a whingeing Pom.

Far out!!!!

I've never ever bought nappies from any supermarket

Why do that when you can get them significantly cheaper from The Warehouse. I buy the Pampers nappies or imported Huggies from there and spend anything between $10 to $25, which for those brands, I think is excellent value

Infect I bought 3 lots of Pampers recently for $45 since they were on offer. 159 nappies in total, bargain.

Looking at those brands on Asda and Tesco, I think I'm getting a better deal sometimes. They're usually £10.00 there.

I know I'm comparing decent brands but Pampers are a very popular brand back home. Hence buying them from The Warehouse here

Just looked at one thing in the cupboard.

Heinz Baked Beans Tesco 75 pence, Countdown 2.70NZD.

Now that's a rip off.

This is so true. I think you've done a good job. People will never be happy with other peoples work as everyone does stuff different.

If NZ is anything like the UK for shopping (wouldn't know entirely as only spent 3 weeks there) then you will be able to get it cheaper by shopping around and buying specials, but only if you have the time.

Do you have a countdown online account still? may be worth putting an online basket together to show how close the items are in size/weight etc.

Quite surprised you didn't highlight and underline the cucumber price though

Yes, but that's for a branded, imported product.

From the Countdown site just now (all 420g)

Heinz - $2.29
La Romanella - $0.50
Delmaine $1.99
Macro Organic $1.50
Oak $1.00
Select (own brand) $1.39
Watties $1.79
Whole Earth $4.20
Ceres Organic $2.60

So plenty of choice and pricing levels

Yeah, bulk buying when on special, adjusting your meals to specials and also to the season will save you quite a bit (and seasonal shopping meant to be greener)

Things like toilet rolls, soft drinks, bottled water, biscuits, crisps etc - always one of the supermarket chains will have on special.

Couldn't find Heinz BB at the price you quoted. Ok off the imported stuff.
Cherry Tomatoes NZ Countdown 3.0 NZD 250 g. Tesco 90 pence 300g. And the UK imports them?

Standard Milk 3.0 l 5.07 NZD, Tesco British Milk
3.4l 1.50 GBP.
This is basic foodstuff NZ made and grown. Still far more expensive.
Let's not play Pingpong, its just a fact of life here. Prospective buyers into the NZ brand need to know. As far as the specials argument, I don't want to spend time trawling through the papers or on the web looking for deals.
Cheers

I wouldn't equate "imported" into the UK with "imported" into NZ at all. As I said on the other thread, the reasons for NZ prices being high are real and well known...and not going to change any time soon. Agree prospects need to understand there is a real price difference.

You have to get with the program and shop like a Kiwi; a full time sport / hobby whereby you scratch around, living on leftovers and cadging anything you can for free and shopping around for cheapest nappies known to man all week, so that you can afford to lay out $25 bucks a pop for half a 'smashed' avocado on toast and a coffee for brunch at the weekend.
