If it's new then ship it over and either buy a cheap video recorder to get the channels through or cable, the tv's can be expensive over there...

DVDs will work fine but the disks in the shops in NZ are Region 4 (UK is region 2) so to play new or rental DVDs you will need a multi-region player.

Video recorders (and TVs) need to work with the PAL B/G standard (UK is PAL I). If the manual mentions PAL B/G or there is an option to set the country to Italy, Germany or the Netherlands then you should be OK.

Our TV didn't support PAL B/G so we treated ourselves to MySky, a hard disk personal video recorder from Sky that's a pricey $600 to sign up for, but no extra monthly charge on the Sky subscription. It's worth it to be able to easily record programs or entire series and watch them when you want to, skipping the ads. Also it has two SCART sockets so it hooks up easily to UK gear.
