UK Recruitment - NZ Police
Hi all. I'm in the process of applying to join up with New Zealand Police, I have my interview on 2nd April. I'm after advice etc from any UK Officers who have made the move in previous years to get a better insight. In fact a chat with any New Zealand Officers to get their views on good and bad points on Policing in NZ. I'm also keen to chat to anyone who is at the stage I'm at.
I'm currently a Traffic Officer with Cambs Police.
Post here <snip>
Cheers

Re: UK Recruitment
Hello Will.
I can't help you on the police front as I'm not in that line of work. Just thought I would say hi and wish you lots of luck for 02/04/08. I haven't started the immigration process yet because I want to get a higher level qualification first but will be moving asap.
At least if you get in, you will have a good, steady job and decent money I expect. If you look around on here, you will find info on different areas, depends on where you get work
Anyway, all the best and I've sent you some good luck karma

Hi Gooddrills.
Welcome to this forum.
I can't help either on the Police front and am wondering if your thread title may mean that any coppers out there won't pick up on your post .
Perhaps try a new thread with a title that goes something like 'UK policeman to NZ' or similar.
Here is a link to a previous thread re. police.. Click the blue type.

Re: UK Recruitment
Hello folks, just joined this forum although i have been reading the threads on the NZ Police with interest for some time. I am a UK officer, in fact in the same force as you Grimbonz!! and although i do not claim to be an expert on everything re. NZ Police, i have done the recruitment tests over there last November and spent some time talking and patrolling with the NZ officers. I have also liaised with a fellow Norfolk colleague who emigrated last year so i'm beginning to get a fair picture of what its all about!! Without sounding smug if i can help anyone with any questions please fire away and i will endeavor to put your minds at rest. I will say this though - bottom line is this....in my opinion the job will be no better than a UK cops in fact it will be worse, they are behind us technically and in many ways procedural, officers there are worked very hard and underpaid. However, if you specialize then things may be a whole lot better. The chances are very high that you will be posted to Auckland unless you have a very valid reason (skills) to be posted elsewhere. Having said that New Zealand is a fantastic country with clean air, good schools, low unemployment, friendly people and wealth of opportunities for families providing you go out there with a positive mind set. There are so many other considerations you need to think about - pension/housing/education etc. which i shan't bore you with but are important. Good Luck!

Hey all.....
Has anyone out there been offered a posting by the N.Z Police for February 09? If so did you get the area you were looking for? I know there are a number of new recruits starting in October. Im assuming its a standard email everyone gets?
Anyway, many thanks in advance........

Re: UK Recruitment - NZ Police
I transferred across in 2006 and was lucky enough to get Queenstown, so my perspective is different from others. Auckland, which is where most people end up is another big city with all the 'big city problems'. It may have changed from when i came out but dont expect your specialist skills to be recognised. I was working with an ex DS from SB who was also pounding the beat with me !
The pay is nothing like what you may expect and if you live somewhere like Auckland it can be hard to manage. I know a number of people who left simply because they couldnt afford to stay.
The whole law system and process is very different and very frustrating so be prepared to go along with it, i had the attitude of 'when in Rome etc'. If you have a traffic back round you will probably fit in nicely. We were expected to issue 1 ticket an hour to prove productivity and i was not Highway patrol ! Yes quotas are here as well !! If you send me a PM i will happily discuss it further.
As for NZ ! Its fantastic and the best thing we ever did but you wanted to know about Policing so thats another topic.
Good luck and drop me a line.

A friend of mine who's currently with Hants and IOW has been offered a start in October. Was offered a few locations, so don't assume you're going to Pville.
PM me your email address, I'll pass it to him and you can talk to your hearts content.

Hi,
I've been offered the February conversion course. My posting is Huntly which doesn't look too bad. All I said was I didn't want Auckland.
Anybody out there going from the Cambridgeshire area or close by?
Good luck everyone.

Grimbonz,
I forgot to reply to your post way back when, sorry I wasn't being rude, I just read through them again. You are just across the border, I live in Wisbech! How's it all going? If you ever get over this way it would be nice to have a chat over a beer?
