Default UK/EEC passports

Apparently from what I can glean from the interweb (although it does not appear to be wholly guaranteed), British citizens will be allowed to keep their current UK/EEc passports until they expire.

The Passport Office will not confirm this but it has been mooted that even after the UK has left the EEC our passports will still be valid until they expire. Which is nice.

But only as UK passports.

Indeed. The info was quite clear. The benefits of the 'EEC' part of the passport will be null and void as of the departure form the EEC. Those poor sods doing the booze run will also apparently have to go back to the old style, draconian limits of the old days. Which is not nice.

The EEC has been defunct since 1993 but yes, your existing British passport won't cease to be valid upon the UK's departure from the EU in the same manner that your old blue passport was valid until it expired even after the UK joined the EU. As for the booze run that will entirely depend on the Brexit negotiations. Nothing has been decided yet.
