UK Drivers licence
Just got a renewal notice for my UK licence - runs out 18-09-13. can't renew online as my passport is more than 5yrs old (and that's another matter as that needs renewing in 2016 and need to get the 2yr visa's in next Jan 2014 so might get that done before hand but won't get it back in time for the licence) and also the address on licence is the house we sold and not where we are having mail sent to which is another sticky point.
Not renewing it? how does that affect us if/when we go back on holiday or return in years to come. How easy is it to get one when you go back?
any help much appreciated

Re: UK Drivers licence
You are not allowed to renew your UK driving licence if you arnt resident in the country. Also as you point out you don't own the house where the licence is registered to anyway.
With regard to your licence, your paper version is valid until you are 70 I think, so that's still a valid licence, its just the photo one that's expired.
If you go back you just apply again, ticking the expired section on line after all as above you still have a valid licence.
If you go back on holiday just take your photo NZ licence and your UK paper one.

Returning to the UK? .. You can exchange your NZ driving licence up to 5 years after becoming resident in the UK so long as your licence remains valid. The fee is £50.

I have a UK licence and wasnt allowed to use it when I went back to UK last month. If you aren't a UK resident with a UK residential address your UK licence is invalid.

Re: UK Drivers licence
Your UK paper licence only runs out at 70, until then all you need to do to get a new photolicence is to do an address change, if needed, and then apply, normal rates apply. You UK licence MUST be registered to a valid UK address to get the photo one, and once you have moved out of the UK, your UK licence becomes invalid until you return, permanently. There is no way the UK DVLA will send a licence to a non UK address. If you have a paper licence from the UK, then all you need to do if returning PERMANENTLY is to use the non UK licence until you can get a new UK photolicence and you paper licence address changed.
Remember, all you who are living out the UK, and have a UK photolicence, it is only valid for 10 years in any case.
