It’s interesting to note that NZ almost encourages dentists to charge exorbitant fees if your child is in need of a brace. Expect to pay more than $5000 if your kid’s nashers are slightly less than perfect. They don’t mention that on the NZ Immigration web site do they! You could have a brace fitted to your child just before you leave the UK which would be free but because the brace will need regular adjustment and correction the great kiwi dentist still gets the chance to rip you off of thousands of your hard earned dollars.
The mongrel mob does offer an interesting alternative dental plan. If your child joins their wonderful organisation they will almost certainly at some stage get their teeth knocked out and get arrested. Then while in prison your son or daughter will be entitled to free dental work thanks to the NZ tax payer. Problem solved.
The reality is that the ridiculous dental charges normally result in kiwis avoiding the dentist altogether………Don’t they Helen?

Our 2 eldest both had braces fitted in the UK, since getting here both have broken bits off them (probably my burnt offerings?!
) when we told the UK orthodontist we were coming to NZ she said we didn't need to bring any records with us. She said the orthodontist here would be able to tell by looking at their braces and teeth position to know what stage they were at. We rang one here to get them in quickly, we hoped, as they're both broken to be told they were very concerned that the kids have no records and the earliest they can see them here is November! We have a few more we can try, but be warned, it is NOT normal practice to be told not to bring any records, this is a lazy cop out IMHO.
