Re: TV in NZ
I dunno about British Sky TV but Sky TV here has UKTV on one of their packages. As for summer temps in Hamilton -- average mid to high 20s with the rare foray into the low 30s.

Bear in mind, the sun seems a lot hotter than the actual reading, to do with the hole in the ozone layer as I recall

No. You get NZ sky TV which is an odd mix of British, Australian and the USA. Bit like the country itself.
If you watch the non-satellite channels you'll be seeing a never-ending mix of old Simpsons episodes, NZ rugby, 4 year old movies and TV shopping/bible TV.
If you get Sky you'll be watching more recent Simpsons episodes, 2 year old movies, international rugby and pop videos. (And Dai Henwood)
If you are a football fan you can watch games on ESPN but you might want to bring a lot of televisions over with you because the urge to kick the set in whenever Tommy Smyth is the commentator is OVERWHELMING.
Anyway, NZ sells itself on being an outdoor type of country so the TV isn't such a big thing....

We get Dai Henwood without paying for Sky!!! How's that for quality of life?
In any event, you will pay comparable fees for WAY fewer channels.

In Auckland, one of the non-satellite channels is an all day fest of dog and horse racing.

What about those rainy winter evenings and the only thing on tv is some dumb American crime series or "Balls of Steel." I guess that's why God invented Dai Henwood.

We quite like the NZ TV, maybe we are dumb, i don't know ?
The programmes are pretty good, comedy shows funny (there again i am comparing them with French comedy shows where Benny Hill is still a living legend and considered "intellectual"). The problem is , is the adverts, there are much more and more frequent than in England. You are watching the AllBlacks and there is a ad for Warehouse, (here everyone gets a bargain). The last 2 nights there have been "Size of your penis" and "This man sleeps with blowup dolls" brilliant !!! (the wife thought it amazing anyway - how much does a Salami cost anyway ?). Even the US programmes aren't too bad, "I am Earl", brilliant ! LOts of documentary progs, saturday morning progs for kids , just as good as BBC ! "Dancing with the stars" - local version of Strictly Come Dancing, even with Craig, the gay but tough judge, who was on SCD !
We expected the programmes to be like Bravo Tv or similar, but yes, pretty good !
Sky seems to have the monopoly on major sports progs, like in England however (seeing the AllBlacks should be a right really, People before Profits!!!)

A lot of the adverts are really cheap, simple and SHOUTY. You know the type, man standing in some factory staring at the camera and saying the products name and 'save' over and over again. The government seems to have money to burn though, as the big budget adverts are the anti drink-driving campaigns.
Loads of TV-shopping to fill up the post midnight slots, of course.
