Default Trip back in Blighty after 20mths

Hi folks.

Been here 3 weeks, 3 to go.

Ace to see family.
Not a *single* sunny day so far.
Trains overcrowded and grotty.
Towns dirty and claustraphobic.
Roads ridiculous- no point going anywhere nice in summer @ weekends unless you love being in the car.
Food and fuel noticably dearer.
Shopping wonderful but can only window shop so not full fun experience.
Countryside lush, green, accessible and varied, pity weather has meant it less appealing to enjoy.

People keep asking me if I'm moving back. Unless dh (arriving tomorrow) feels totally differently that'll be a resounding NO. Kids missing their freedom and Kiwi life, but loving being with family.

Where are you in UK at mo ? sounds like London way ?

We head back to Poole Dorset at Christmas time for 3 weeks, hope it doesn't rain for 3 weeks! the main thing is to see family, and some old haunts, thats the main problem with being this far away from evrything and family, no instant baby sitters, so after over 3 years we havn't been out much as a couple, i think thats one thing that we miss, family, will be weird being back in UK and Poole.

Hope the rest of your hol is better with the weather.

Nige, Dunedin since may 05

Glad you're having a good holiday, but you must be somewhere like the darkest corner of Wales if you've seriously had no sun.

We are having a completely crap Summer, but with the exception of the last week that has been wet for some of the time on most days (a la Auckland style), the sun's been out a fair bit on most days. I think you're probably used to the bright NZ sun now. We on the other hand, are still getting through the sunscreen!

Having said that, July was MUCH hotter and sunnier than August has been, so hopefully you managed to enjoy some of that? Not sure it's going to get much better though, sorry. September has been better than August for the past 2/3 years or so now; so your luck just might be in if you have another 3 weeks (very lucky with a 6 week visit.)

The weather is such a weird and changeable thing thesedays.
