Re: Trick or treat
Yep, NZ does Halloween. Not seen many trick or treaters but you can get the masks and costumes etc.

Re: Trick or treat
I actually forgot about it last year and luckily had a few hokey pokey bits in the house and then did a quick trip to NW only to discover when I came back that we had no other kids come over had to eat it all myself

Re: Trick or treat
Last year there was a great Halloween in Seatoun. Yes it was at 4 o clock and it was still light....but the kids were really sweet and went round in a totally safe way just to the decorated houses....no hoodie wearing teenage thugs in a skull mask demanding cash with menaces!.
I, for one, am looking forward to it this year with my kids!

We did "boo at the zoo"..heaps of fun, for my daughter's birthday. She has had halloween parties two years in a row. I love halloween but hate trick or treating.

Re: Trick or treat
In the UK we always had a dress up party for Halloween complete with prizes and I used to love making pumpkin lanterns etc. WE never went door to door though as that was seen as American twaddle.
In NZ it has always been very low key until recently. People might have a halloween themed party and dress up, but trick or treating is fairly recent. My OH reckons he has a moral objection to it (due to religious upbringing) and our kids have never been allowed to do it, but if any come to our door he ends up telling them how great they look and giving them sweets if they scream , which annoys our kids no end. Last year he fixed his fence-sitting by pinning a sign on the front door "All trick or treaters will be eaten." Nobody came to the door.
If you're not a fan, when they say "Trick or Treat", say "Trick". Most of them don't know what to do. At worst it's a water pistol.

Re: Trick or treat
i honestly dont get why trick or treat has to be american twaddle.. my mum always dressed us up , she always made our costume , i won lots of 1st places when i was younger for fancy dress. All of my neighbours went out trick or treating , round the doors telling jokes , getting invited in to bob for apples etc... i think its really sad that it isnt so popular anymore
In 2004 we were in florida at halloween and it was just amazing, We went to universal for a halloween night , was just out of this world and nothing like i have ever saw anywhere else... Every house was decorated to the nines , really really nice and such effort
In My Opinion i say why slate them for making such an effort to keep up a tradition, i mean they all put in so much effort, i say well done
I was hoping to be in our house for halloween so i could have a big party but not going to happen , roll on next year , i cant wait
remember just my opinion

Re: Trick or treat
I do take the point that some people object on religious grounds, and others are threatened particularly the elderly...which is why I would encourage everyone to only visit the houses which are decorated.....then if they do say 'Trick' .....PM me for ideas! (the old burning newspaper on top of dog poo will be number 1 )
