travel insurance
Hi , We are hoping to emmigrate shortly just waiting for visa's, and wondered if there is anyone that could give me info on insurance for just the outward journey. Obviously we wont need any more than the outward as we wont be coming back. Thanks

Re: travel insurance
Is this insurance for you or for household goods?
Don't think we took out any insurance on ourselves when we came over

We took out one way travel insurance through the Post Office. Important to do especially if you are coming via USA. Imagine the cost of needing healthcare there if you were taken ill on the flight

We also used the Post Office, but there are other companies who do one-way insurance. The Post Office covers you for your journey and then the first few (I think 17) days of being in NZ which will give you time to get registered for GPs etc.
As Vitalstatistix says, I think it costs more if you come via the US, but worth every penny if anything happens en route.

Excuse my ignorance, why is it a problem getting one way insurance/ And does it matter if it's both ways and you just don't use it? My insurance for this summers trip was £12 UK

You have to read the small print - heaven forbid that you actually need to use the insurance for serious illness or injury, but there's usually some clause with return holiday insurance which would see you being repatriated to the UK in an emergency situation.

Like said here if you don't have a return ticket it invalidates the insurance. Rubbish if you don't read it.
