Travel Insurance
 

Hey peeps

Really busy at the mo sorting stuff out... not much time left!

Anyhoo I got thinking about travel insurance etc... I'm assuming UK companies won't insure people who are emigrating and, if need to claim, won't actually be resident in the UK for the forseeable future.

Are there any companies that specialise in providing travel insurance for one way ticket holders??!

Although they don't tend to advertise it very well most insurance companies provide 'one-way' emigration insurance.
Some are better than others so give a few a call and see what they offer. I used http://www.direct-travel.co.uk/ simply because I always used them for other travel insurance but there are lots of others out there too.

Ahh yes I've used them before... they're very reasonable... can't see anything specific to emigration but they do have the single trip insurance.

Will call them tomorrow for a chat - cheers.

I know it seems a bit morbid, but its all in the detail and daresay not many people even think about the consequences of the insurance policy actually being invoked. The vital bit to check in the small print is to where they say the insurer will pay for you to go in the event of a serious injury or death. A non-specialist insurer won't be thinking permanent immigration and will probably expect that you will be wanting to be returned to the UK for treatment or otherwise. It might be worth some thought as to what you actually would like to occur, if (heaven forbid) you were to have an accident on a stopover halfway here.

Just spoke to direct travel... they cover you for your trip until 24hrs after immigration.

For wife, daughter and I, including natural disaster cover (e.g. volcano) comes to £48

Seems reasonable enough to me!

There is a UK based company that specialises in travel insurance for people who are going on a "one-way" trip.

I am looking for the same as you - albeit in a more "for curiosity" capacity. Still no word on my eventual ejection from the UK.

I keep finding this site, mainly because they are quite local to me. I seem to be unable to escape from them! But as a starting point, they seem okay.

I am still to find out how competitive they are in terms of price, but for me they quoted me what I thought was a reasonable price.
