Default Townies

But when David Copp came across a fishing trawler moored in Ilfracombe Harbour he took great offence and complained about the “disgusting” smell.

The 46-year-old was outraged that his children, aged seven and nine, had been forced to endure the sight of 12 crates of dead fish and crabs, piled up on the quayside.

He said the ordeal had left them “quite distressed”...

Oh dear, oh dear, oh dear...
So how do his kids cope with walking past butchers' shops and supermarket meat counters or do they not know that the produce was once little fluffy lambs, cute piglets and playful calves?? Seems like he missed a good learning opportunity there.

I like the bit afterwards as well where it says:
Mr Lawson tried to explain that fishermen depended on the daily catch for their livelihoods...
I wish he had recorded that conversation if only for the humour of having to explain to a fully grown man how fishing worked.

True, hard to believe a grown man takes his kids to a working fishing harbour and doesn't expect to see dead fish.
I remember being fascinated as a kid by how ugly some of the dead fish were in the market in my home town [nowhere near the sea!] Didn't upset me at all. I also knew that those cute animals playing in the fields would soon appear on my dinner plate And I'm a townie!

My two children used to name the animals that we kept for meat and ask 'who' it was we were eating for tea. A healthy rivalry about whose animal tasted best
