Tooth ache

Re: Tooth ache
Totally agree with that - bill for a visit yesterday was $195 and $340 for OH that was just for dental hygienist, dentist to have a look and a few x-ray.
The bad news is that the work required will cost $1500 and $2200 for a few drillings and fillings. Can't wait for the day my crowns need to be replaced
I suggest you get anything done before you come across to NZ if you can

Re: Tooth ache
Its been discussed quite a few times, so it is unfortunate you did not see these..... You can get health insurance but by all accounts some packages do not cover alot, we have looked and not found one that we think are worth taking. But I am sure someone out there may know better
We may just all have to take up Rugny or extreme sports and claim from ACC

Or get it done while holidaying back home...
My dad's friend is a dentist & am sure he can fill the forms with my dads or brothers name...

Re: Tooth ache
Your dentist couldn't get it all out?
If it's at all complicated (ie growing in a strange way) you may find that your new dentist will have to refer you to a specialist.
That will be more than an extraction. Not cheap.

Re: Tooth ache
Nero, your dentist sounds pretty expensive!
matewx do you want me to ask my DH what his advice would be?

Re: Tooth ache
$2400 was for 3 x porcelain restorations + they rounded off a previous veneer and added a coating to another tooth (3 hours of work)
The other $1500 is for restoring one tooth and repairing a fractured tooth with gold (so its a big job - infortunately). Wish it wasn't
Luckily we save money for dental and glasses each week

Re: Tooth ache
Not sure if they are expensive or cheap, but they are very good and do not hurt, which is a big bonus

the bad news for Matewx is that there is a big chance you will need surgery to remove the root that's left. My Dh said you could try a course of antibiotics if it's an infection, but long term it may have to be removed surgically.
The fact that some root was left in doesn't necessarily mean your dentist did something wrong. It can happen. Our teeth weren't made to be removed! Or it could be he/she just did a bad job.
Good luck I hope you get it sorted.
If you were used to going private in the Uk then the costs here are way less. If you went NHS then yes it's more expensive. However there is a strong chance that the treatment you receive will be much much better.

The actual root is coming out on its own, week after week, I can feel it's come out more n more...
Dentist in B'ham did say I would be ok that it'd come out on its own... As I did tell him that it was not good timing leaving something in as I was planning to move out of Uk...
Wait n see...
It does not hurt anymore...

Re: Tooth ache
So sorry to hear about the toothache, and pleased to hear that it's settled down today. With any luck it'll just be intermittent pain whilst that root works it's way out . Miserable to think that you might have to endure episodes of pain...but at least there's light at the end of the tunnel, and it won't cost you a fortune. Just stock up on the panadol
I have to say though that my experiences of dentistry over here have been positive so far. Expensive for sure, but I'd ended up having to get a private dentist in the UK because of the scarcity of NHS dental services in our area, and in comparison the cost here seems competitive . And I feel as if I got a better service for my money.

Re: Tooth ache
End of the saga...
Had enough of it, so went to the people centre, paid $145 and it's all out!
So happy

Re: Tooth ache
$145 for all the tooth removed - RESULT. Hope you are not in any pain. Oil of Cloves or about 4 neat brandys usually do the trick (I would say 3-4 schnapps but that wouldn't be funny )
