Too fat for New Zealand
Don't know if this has already been discussed on here but it has just been on BBC news.

Don't know what the wider inmplications may be.

Neither do I.
Seems perfectly reasonable to me.
Even the article seems to nod to it being a mountain out of a molehill after the guy has already lost 5cms and is now working in NZ.
Leaving the UK after my taxes were paying for non-earners to gain benefits - especially health benefits - after immigrating from Europe and beyond, is one of the many reasons we are now here.

Well what can I say? He's chosen to go. Maybe he is trying to tell his wife something?

I think it sounds fair enough.
Have any of the articles said how heavy or tall this couple is? Whilst BMI may not be the best indicator (from what I understand) to tip 42 sounds like unless he is a professional athete with a strange screwy height/weight ratio then he was really overweight. Ditto with the wife.

If it is less than 35 and you can convince the Doctor that you are trying to improve your health then you should be OK. You will have to have extra blood tests though but

Re: Too fat for New Zealand
Hmm mine is about 43 Always knew it would be a problem though, i have 7mths left on my current work visa and as yet haven't submitted my EOI (although i have 220 points with my job etc).
I lost 4st about 2 years ago in 3 months with the Cambridge diet and doctors advice, so i am looking to give that another go here in NZ, and hopefully i can A) get fitter and healthier and B) get to lower BMI and convince a doc i can stay...
If it takes longer than 6mths, anyone know if i can get my current work permit extended or get a new one? Before applying for PR..

I understand that certain conditions regarding health have to be fulfilled, it makes one think though!

Re: Too fat for New Zealand
Does this whole thing mean, than even if you get out here on a work permits (say a couple with kids), you could be refused PR if one of you has a high BMI, even if you are both in work with accredited employers and not in the 2 years (work permit) been a drain on resources?
Any points or indication on what is the level of BMI is acceptable? I doubt they will rule out everyone over 30, but I guess they have a higher figure which is the cut of?? Or is it the waist measurement rather then BMI?
Any hints on what targets people should aim for would be good for all those voluptuous figured people out there

Having fullness of beautiful form - well proportioned!
An erotic way of putting cuddly - yes!!!
Some cultures consider a voluptuous figure to be the ideal female body shape - but not all!!!

Be mindful of what you eat and move around. There is no cure for obesity. You can't have a 'target', get to that target and then go back to doing what got you fat in the first place.
Enough of my rant.
I believe that if your bloods come back OK you should be fine.
