Was out clearing the garden this arvo and the thought popped into my head that I should go in and get a beanie cos my ears were so cold from the wind that they were sore - then I remembered that it is summer not autumn or winter

Basically... you do not need any summer clothes.. or anything shorts.....here in Welly. keep buying summer clothes every summer.. how dumb you are... just wasting loads of money. I keep telling myself Never never again, but I find myself buying least a piece of summer dress every year...stupid stupid. they've been just sleeping in my wardrobe.

I'm with 'Charasmatic' on this one!

After a cool,cloudy, morning it was certainly a great afternoon here in Kapiti. My son played in his friend's outdoor pool all afternoon and my daughter/friend and I cycled down by Waikanae river, had a paddle, then onto the beach for a kapiti icecream: warm and sunny, although I admit it was a bit breezy on the beach.

My son and OH are, as I write, playing rugby on the beach, before the dreaded back to school/work tomorrow......

Seriously now peeps What winter day time temperatures does your area encounter? How often does midday temperatures stay under 5C and how often does the frost stay on the ground all day? It's 2C here and one of the warmest days for a while so I am trying to get a true picture. I know all temperatures are depending on differences and the stats say one thing but 16C is a comfortable working temperature (factory that is) but what are typical winter temps where you live?

Frosts stay on the ground at our place until around 10 a.m. in the morning as the sun gets around the section. Some places you have to watch the roads as the frost will remain permanently. It's all about the sun hitting the ground. We don't get snow on the ground here though, nor freezing temperatures , mainly due to topography.

As you know, it can be warmer outside than inside once the sun is in full swing.

Yesterday : Very hot and extremely windy so didn't fancy getting seriously ex foliated down by the beach.
