er sorry, Windy Welly

I stood in the kitchen watching my car being rocked side to side, so I had to go park it down the road where it was a little safer.

I have already had the car door shut on my leg, and the boot lid almost come down on my head!

Getting the post is an expedition requiring bungee ropes and all sorts. I run down to the letter box at the speed of light, but it takes me a good 5 minutes to walk back up the driveway to my house.

Poor kids have to be escorted to the car for fear of being swept away....with the rest of my washing, pegs, kids toys and various shrubs.

ffs...cant wait to leave khandallah!! Ok it has its plus points, your clothes dry in approx 10 minutes. But am also fed up of stocking my neighbours' wardrobes!

about 80% of wind in Welly are Northerlies. Today, I thought wasn't too bad.

When winter hits and the southerlies come through than you know about it.

Khandallah is in the hills so your bound to feel it more than being on the flat, saying that nice area, great views, shame about the wind

Look for a property which is protected from the Northerlies. Okay you will get hit by the Southerlies but as I say the percentage will work in your favour. Also its part of the dreaded Western Suburbs.

Wellington is the southern tip of the North Island and when the wind funnels through Cook Strait it blows right into Wellington harbour. Also vise versa due to the mountain ranges coming down from the North.

One plus to this is that Wellington is less polluted than any other city in NZ.

Katie, I'm sorry, but your posts made me laugh! Still, where you're buying, you'll be more protected. In that area it's generally more mild than directly in Wellington.

I remember when we lived in Wellington for six months (DH on tech course) back in the 80's and ropes were strung across the intersections in the CBD so you had something to hang onto when crossing the roads, rather than getting blown away.

Wouldn't put me off going back there to live.

hahahaha no way? Got me thinking last night, if we had winds like this in the UK we have travel warnings and told not to leave the house unless its critical.

It's not just Wellington... last winter (NZ winter) I remember reading an online news article about a 13-year old girl blown off the pavement into the road... and under a bus. She did not survive.
