Talking Time to make decisions . . . Advise please !!

Hi everyone

Well the application is about to go in, will be posting it off within the week!

Now need to figure out when to do what!

I'm handing in my notice at work for a month, even though I have no idea how long it takes to get a nay or yay from immigration.

Ideally I need to be in Nz for end of February, so my dilemma is without getting the nod from immigration how do I start planning the move? I need to give a months notice on my rented property here, reluctant to make myself homeless without the final yes lol
also need to consider when I should arrange furniture removals etc. Should I be optimistic and brave and go for it or wait for feedback from immigration??

Also faced with the possibility that I may require a medical waiver for my eldests daugter, and can't seem to get time frames for that! The immigration lawyer thinks I may get away without needing it but it's a case of suck it and see! Any advise about time frames would be gratefully received!!!

Thanks in advance and I hope that made sense lol

Hi,
If you really want to know what a minefield is, i suggest you read my previous post, and am sure you will find further letters on here regarding the process, thats not to say yours wont go smoothly.
I would suggest not to do anything until you have had the medicals and got the all clear, and assuming you police checks etc are all ok and you have a job to go to that will give you sufficient points to get your EOI pulled out early enough, then you may be able to start to plan when you want to arrive.
I found a lot of the process was out of our hands which is the frustrating bit, so with that in mind i would say not to hand in your notice on job and house until you have got a bit further down the line and understand whats required first.
Good luck with everything and hope it works out for you and am sure you will recieve any help you need on here.

M

You could be months and months away from getting the visas - don't do anything until you know you're safe to do so.

Have a look at the 'timelines' of BE / NZ members......you'll see that it does vary for a variety of reasons. I do agree with OP tho'....I wouldn't do anything until I'd been 'approved in principle'....don't count your chickens!!

Hi!

Firstly good luck, I cant say I envy those of you playing the waiting game, although I very much envy the end result Just wanted to say that with regards to when to arrange removals we usually say a few months in advance, but most professional companies will have flexible resources that can work to tighter timescales.

You can get a home visit for a a move consultation (to estimate the volume of goods to be moved and assess your requirments) and a quotation for the move at any time - and this should always be free and non obligatory whichever company you use.

I would suggest getting 3 quotes from movers (make sure they are BAR Overseas group members and FIDI FAIM certified!!). This will give you an idea of volume and costs (even if your requirements or dates change later, at least you'll have a ball park expectation) and what you need to organise in preparation for your move. It will also get you to start thinking about what belongings you want to take and leave behind!

Good luck!

Thanks for the replies. I probably didn't make myself clear but I have job already, and my ita application is the one about to be posted. Already been through the eoi part and medicals done. I'm hoping medicals are ok as doctor has signed them off! Well fingers crossed anyway lol!

Removals I have to use crown as I'm being part funded by the health board I will be working for.

I think judging from everyones date lines and experiences I best not do anything until I have spoken with my case officer in nz house!!

Thanks all x

Our timeline was with a job offer
It was quicker than the length of time we were advised.

Around 5 weeks from ITA submission to Blue Stickers. HTH
We got our 4 quotes and chose one, we called our shippers on Friday 31st and they packed us up a week the following Monday on the 10th!

Hi ali...........after a bit of net research it seems the employer can get your visa quicker than anyone else. Individually it may take 3 weeks longer. On the to take or leave decision....we found material objects on par with uk costs so we are taking lock stock and barrell. Our best repsonse from real estate agents has been for property in cambridge and it looks good......might be our new home ! best of luck......

UUmm. That's not true. It is up to the individual to sort out their own work visas or PR. Having a job offer helps any PR application. With a work visa it is a job offer first and then a work visa application.
The employer will only be involved with an individual application if the occupation is not on the NZIS shortage list because they have to prove there is no NZ citizen or PR who could fill that vacancy.

It makes sense Given the phrase 'medical waiver' has been used I'd personally do nothing until you hear from the case officer re . the medicals. The panel doctor signing them off doesn't mean anything other than he has completed the required medicals.

A medical waiver appears to be a lengthy process. There is no set timeframe for that. It will all depend on what the medical assessors requires and if they want further details and reports etc. It can be a very frustrating and time-consuming affair from what I have read.

Why does the Immy Consultant think there might be the need for a medical waiver. Without being too personal, what condition does your daughter have. Was it noted on her medical?

With ref. to Crown. Just maybe have a chat with them and ask how many weeks notice they need to slot you in.

Hi bevs!

My daughter has some mild learning difficulties and a thyroid disorder. I, like jan and neil, am using lane neave as immigration lawyers and they are unsure what the immigration dept will do regarding my daughters medical. I have supplied info already stating that her thyroid levels r maintained on meds. I've also supplied evidence stating she does not have severe disabilities and should be able to work. It's just a case of waiting and seeing on that front. Lane neave obviously know there's a job offer at stake if delay is too long, but were confident they could get me in, however saying this time scales r slippery things to get a grip on lol!!

There must be equality in the window. We have the DDA, the NZ law must have the equivilent. There is also the Human rights act. If the condition is not detrimantal to neighbouring society then i think its just a matter of pressing the admin side. I wish you good luck................and a happy new year.

NZ immigration factor in future cost of healthcare to the application process...lots of 'hoops to jump through' to get a medical waiver but as others on here will testify, it can be done
