Default sending stuff back to uk

Hi all, am sorry I know this has been done to death but I haven't found an ans suitable for me. Here goes the boring question... We brought for boxes over with air freight totalling 90kg and we can't use the same crowd back as they say they only do from uk out. Are there any companies ye can suggest as alot I have looked up are for shipping a whole house back etc, and we are only sending clothes and books, oh and my jaffle maker as I have become very attached to it. Sorry to make ye all go over the same ground again, but if ye can be of any help would really appreciate it, we are heading back in 3 weeks. Thanks for letting me bore ye.

NZ Van lines. They will have an associate company in the UK. Crown Worldwide are also a global co. Why not get a price from them both? Good luck. Allied Pickfords are another global bunch you could look at.

That's about 4 extra cases worth as excess baggage which would cost $270 to go with you on Air NZ IIRC ($35 for first bag $100 for second assuming 2 of you...).

Other than logistics each end is it any more complex??? Most airlines should be able to manage unaccompanied baggage at a lower cost too.

Thanks Genesis and Simonsi for the replies, have sent off for a few quotes, unfortunately we are flying with Brunei Airlines and their baggage allowance isn't the most generous, excess- baggage.com quoted over £900 gbp for the same amount that we paid just over 300quid for to send over so am hoping others won't be so steep else it looks like the clothes will be staying. cheers abbey.

Hi Abbey,

What method did you use to send your items over? Was this by sea or air? Most big international movers will offer groupage services for clients not wanting to move a full household and although slower it can work out cheaper.

These are Air NZ latest charges via their cargo department:

You will have a charge of $100.00 for all handling, admin, documentation, xrays and security checks. Plus ;
Per kg for unaccompanied baggage is $14.38
Per kg for general cargo is $28.77
Minimum charge for weight is $132

There is also a charge of 100 pounds at the UK end for clearing customs

The other option, especially if you have more than 70-80kg would be to call around some freight forwarders. What they can do is consolidate your shipment with other shipments, and get a bigger discount (possibly).

Following are a number of freight forwarders here in Auckland. It will pay to call around as the rates can be quite competitive.

DHL Danzas 977 4777
Mondiale 256 4111
Mainfreight 275 8136
Khuene Nagel 912 7000
Air Menzies 256 4242

Ha! I am in exactly the same boat. I just posted a thread here - http://britishexpats.com/forum/showthread.php?t=722078

Basically, I have a few bits and pieces I want to send back to England, but don't have a clue how to go about it (came to NZ with nothing but the clothes on my back... and in my suitcase )

Where abouts in NZ are you Abbey?
