Default Things NZ has never heard of

Descaler - someone posted on FB that they had no idea what she was talking about.

MrF - was looking for Pro Plus, again never heard of it, so he asked for caffeine tablets and they produced Cold and Flu ones.

What have you found they have no idea about?

suppose that could of been better worded but I've been up for hours as MrF is off on a commissioning course for 10 days so early start, I apologise.

just remembered,

our Kiwi friends had never heard the word 'tat" description for cheap tacky things. MrF called my toy Route Master Bus, tat.

They did have lots of fun going round their own stuff and arguing what was and wasn't Tat.

Sorry I don't know what you mean by 'pro plus'.

Descaler - for kettles/coffee machines I bought descaler from Harvey Norman where it was on sale next to the coffee machines
For bathrooms etc get calcium, rust and lime remover (most NZers know it as CLR) and it is available from DIY shops. Some larger supermarkets may stock it.

Pro Plus gives a massive caffeine kick...little white tablets. I used to use them a lot when long hauling in and out of PRC building a "clone" factory out there. Students use the to cram before exams..stay awake all night...

Beecham's Powders. I shall be stocking up on them, along with Night Nurse and Tyrozets when I'm back there in a few weeks time

I shall also be stocking up on decent clothes

I went to see 'Eddie the Eagle' at the cinema last week. I thought it was a really lovely feel-good film, with great music and tittered and giggled all the way through; to the point of nearly crying laughing at one bit. It seems however that most of the references were wasted on everyone else in the cinema. I think they all must have gone home thinking there's 90 minutes of my life I will never get back. It raised barely a giggle or titter from the rest of the audience, which gave me the giggles even more.

It makes you wonder, especially when British TV Programmes like Top Gear and Coronation Street are so popular here, if the humour and references in those programmes simarly pass so many by.

Any reference to doing the 'Hoovering' is usually met with blank stares - I try to avoid saying it now

It's a lovely film, we really enjoyed it. Met him back in 1982 when he was a ski-ing instructor at Colle Di Tende, Italy. I was on a sixth form ski-ing trip with school. He was a really nice guy, quite shy.

Remember going to see "Hot Fuzz" at the cinema and OH and I were in fits but the Kiwis in the audience were totally non-plussed

Night Nurse is the only one I am familiar with there. I discovered that the active ingredient in NN (ie the one that works) is banned from sale off the shelf here because some naughty druggies make other stuff out it (leaving aside the fact that you need kilos of the stuff to make it worthwhile). Obviously you will be stocking up, but for those who can't, take the NN packet along to the pharmacist and ask for the equivalent. They will give you a pharmacy only med that actually does work and is quite cheap.

I would be careful stocking up on too many packets of NN in case they think you are importing illegally on the way back.
