Teaching Wages
Sorry to be talking about wages everyone, but can anyone give me an idea how much a primary teacher gets paid in NZ. I know I would go in as a newly qualified / unregistered teacher when I first get there but if someone could help that would be great.

Re: Teaching Wages
I just did a quick google on this and it said $36,600 and a tiny bit I can't remember (approx £14,600).

Re: Teaching Wages
Interesting if the base rate is only 36,000 because I know of one school in particular that doesn't pay its beginning teachers less than 45,000 so i am surprised about it being less than even 40k. Perhaps those schools are topping up the salary??
Friends of mine were earning between that and 55k in Wellington primary schools. They had left NZ just after completing their degree in approx 2000/2001/2002 (therefore not registered) and returned to NZ (2006) where they eventually were fully registered. |

This site might help http://www.ppta.org.nz/internal.asp?...1ID=100605#4.1
It's for secondary teachers but I think they're fairly similar scales They also have a calculator you can use as well http://www.ppta.org.nz/cms/imagelibrary/102451.xls |

Re: Teaching Wages
The basic starting salary for primary teachers is pretty low - low 20s
If they're done the 3 year degree it's about $27k If they've done a postgraduate teaching degree it's about $40k |

Re: Teaching Wages
Exactly - I don't know how beginning teachers are supposed to survive. Especially with the administrative errors they have.
Most teachers on the 40k wage are put on the 27k one at first and have to apply and prove that they should be on the higher. It was done to both new teachers at my wife's school and one still isn't sorted out after two months. |
