Teachers Help Needed: Is this correct!(or anyone good at maths!)
Hi,
As you can see from my first thread we were trying to work out the cost of living in New Zealand. My OH is coming over and I will then get a job afterwards but this could take months so we wanted to know if we could survive on his wage for a little while.
Anyway we had been working against the wage of $55,000 for a normal classroom teacher with no management points as a starting point. But we have found a calculator from the teaching union website which works out different.
Anyway we would like to ask any teachers out there is this sounds correct:
NZQA has given him a Level 8 - He has a Degree and a Masters.
According to this file: CA_bklt_TeachersSalaryGuideSecondarySchools_feb09a.pdf
That would give him a G4 stepping point.
With this calculation file: CA_Calculate_Salary.xls
A G4 step, plus 16 years of teaching would put his basic salary at $63,000 not $55,000
Is this correct? I hope so but would like other teachers or anyone who knows about this to double check. Is there anyone out there with similar qualifications who can say if this is right or not?
Thanks!

I can't answer this, but I have heard that those step increases are not paid to new teachers here straight away and for some reason the Ministry of Education delays giving people their full entitlement until they have jumped through whatever hoops they deem necessary. I am sure someone else can explain better.
