Default teach in nelson

hi, new to all this,
we hope to move to nelson but what are the realistic chances of getting primary teaching work there. After reading some posts it put us off even trying. Nelson is the only place i can find a compatable college course for our eldest. Are we being realistic narrowing our search to Nelson. My wife is the teacher I hope to buy a small business cafe, b&b etc.Any help would be great.

Has your wife looked here??

May be worth doing a search on here too for posts by Wiz&Ton as Toni is a primamry teacher in Christchurch. It will give you a better insight into what is involved.

I am not a teacher, however I do know a couple of newly qualified NZ home grown teachers in the area. One is picking up 2 days a week. The other is doing some sort of supply.

I understand from them both that full-time jobs in this area are in short supply. It would seem that it is usual to look towards Christchurch and other more populated areas for a full time permanent contract.

I would also suggest the ed gazette to start with.

Here is a list of some Nelson schools

Nelson is a lovely place to live . What college course are you looking at with the NMIT.

Please do look at the Ed Gazette link. It outlines all vacancies .

Its a one year course: Diploma in graphics and multimedia, the only other courses i can find are in Aukland, which is proberbly best for teaching but not where we want to be. Do you know what the criteria are for being a resident student as opposed to an international one. thanks
