Hi Phyl,
Glad to know i was in good company then...cheers for that.
Any other pitfalls you forsee?
Oh can i just ask.... if you're going to submit your EOI with 125points do you think it's a wise idea to start getting medicals/police checks?
I know everybody says they don't get sent until your ITA but i see a gap timeframe wise when people receive their ITA and then submit it...i take it it's because they're waiting on this info arriving.
Cheers

Re: Taxation/Social Security Number?
Hi, we seem to have posted at the same time!
I would wait until you get your ITA until you do your medicals and possibly your police check also. Medicals only last 3m after you've had them done and the police checks 6m. That doesn't give you a lot of time to get your ITA.
I had a gap of 5 and a half months between being selected and getting my ITA and am so pleased I didn't do the medicals early so I was ready. The police check is not so much of an issue as it lasts longer but it only took 10days to receive it so there is no rush to get it. I would recommend getting everything in order so when you get the ITA you can go straight into getting the meds and police check done. I had rung round and got prices for the local NZIS doctors for example so knew which were cheapest [and there is a big difference between them].
That long gap was unusual and all I can assume is that my application got lost or forgotten as there was nothing difficult about it at all. I ended up complaining to NZIS. But, it shows it can happen and it is not worth having to repeat expensive medicals when you can get an appt to do them within a week usually.
Hope this helps

Re: Taxation/Social Security Number?
Thanks Sue,
Do you mind me asking what exactly is entailed with the medicals?
Are they just a quick medical or do the independant doctors get in touch with your own doctos for your medical history?
Also do you have to get a x-ray done???

Re: Taxation/Social Security Number?
The medicals are not too bad.
They did not get in touch with my GP as I have no chronic medical problems. I don't know about what happens if you are on medication or have had or have an ongoing medical problem. Having reading through threads on here it looks like NZIS will ask for further info if you do have any conditions.
You arrive and produce a urine sample [in private]. You have a physical exam which is not too bad, quick check of eyes, heart, BP, abdomen, reflexes. No need for breast exam unless over 45 and just asked about date of last smear.
You then have to have blood tests and also a chest xray. Anyone under 11 or pregnant does not have the xray. I'm not sure whether the little one will need to have bloods .
They will also check your weight, height, waist measurement and work out your BMI. If your BMI is over 35 or your waist >88cm in females or>102cm in males they request extra blood tests.
Have a look at the medical and xray forms on the NZIS website , they show you what info you have to provide and also what the doctor has to check for. You get the names of the Immigration doctors and radiographers on the NZIS website.
I hate medical stuff so was quite nervous beforehand but it was all fine. There was no excessive undressing involved
