My husband has started work. He is being taxed as if has as started his salary at beginning of tax year. In the uk you would pay the tax on what you'd earn for the rest of the year.
Hope this makes sense. Shouldn't he be paying less tax. I'm aware you pay tax on every cent here but surely he won't hit the higher tax brackets to pay?

Probably be some small claim back at the end of the year, but won't be massive as unlike in the UK there's no personal tax allowance. So everything from the first $ is taxed.

Yeh I knew that but figured if he is part way through the year he will only be taxed on 7 months of the financial year that's left. Ie earning 7 /12 ths of his wage. So being taxed up to a lower bracket this year.?

my husband started his job Sept 2011 and claimed back tax the following April (I think) and got over $4500 back, and that seems fairly common from what I have read on other peoples experiences.
even got $480 back this year, as he changed jobs

My husband got his tax back after the first year, and also got a small amount this year too - so well worth applying.
