Tax
Have seen some good information on the ird.govt.nz site re income tax but can anyone please point me in the right direction re National Insurance and Local Rates/Council Tax as we call it?

Your local rates and even what type you have to pay will be determined by who your council is. As they are different !! So where are you heading for?

There isn't any National Insurance as a separate tax for social security benefits, that's all covered through the income tax. There's an extra 1.3% levy for the ACC Accident Compensation scheme (more info here).
