My mind boggled when I read the title of your post (well actually, i kind of snickered). But seriously, would it have anything to do with the licencing system?

www.ltsa.govt.nz

Generally you sit a scratch test for regular licences - perhaps you have to for HT related jobs as well? Sorry i have no idea but i did wonder if perhaps Linfox, and other places, are so used to using verbal shorthand that they didn't explain themselves very well. Maybe ask them?

It's a test of the highway code.
There's a seperate scratch test for each category of licence, each has a range of papers, and it's a multi choice thing where you have to scratch the panel off for each answer. I think, from memory its 40 questions and you need to get 36 right.
You'll do the basic "everyone does this one" test, and the tanker one with tanker relevent questions at the same time if you haven't got a kiwi licence.

Just remember to pay attention and not mix up "blue car" and "red car"

Just a warning, before sitting the test it is worth reading the road code for HT licences, as the scratch test you'll have to do are harder than the car ones, they tend to be all about weights and distances.

Assuming you have your UK class 1 & 2, you will only need to do the scratch test. otherwise you will need to take prcatical driving tests as well to upgrade your licence.

You will also have to do the dangerous goods course here. You can not transfer your UK one(if you have it). however your employer may arrange this - ask them.

Ok. now you understand that. Are you planing to come to NZ to live and work as an HGV.
If so, are you aware you may notapply to become a Permanent Resident unless you earn $55K PA for a 40 hr week
