We are wavering between optimism and gloom on this subject - looking around, can't bear to part with anything remotely family/ memories-related, yet costs sound prohibitive...

Anything to set our minds at rest?

we shipped our stuff with crown relocations - they pack , load, unload, & unpack - tehy do inventory , they sort customes etc.
no pobs at all, on delivery to NZ address MAF had opened our boxes marked 'shed' , checked them & resealed them
no probs , no worries, no extra costs
put you're feet up & watch the guys do the work

No, it wasnt like that at all. Hadley & Ottaway did all the packing, the inventory, labelling and numbering everything. They worked so hard and were experts at their jobs. The company they used here in AKL was The Moving Company and we had no problems with them either. Boxes/items that MAF had to look at were clearly highlighted on the inventory. We could open everything else but had to wait til the next day for MAF to open those few special boxes. There was no problems with MAF as she could see that we had cleaned the items in question. Honestly, it all went without a hitch, it was easy peasy, pick a recommended company and let them do their job. Youll be fine...dont worry.

That's really helpful and reassuring Sarah - cheers. So, names so far are Hadley & Ottaway and Crown Relocations. Does anyone else have names they'd like to suggest as we are looking to get folk around for quotations asap.

Cheers,

I hear Ikea are apparently going to open in NZ in the next year or two hee hee. Don't know where, though. We've already been thinking about what we would take. Our master bedroom is 12' x 16' and we're not entirely sure what the average sizes of NZ bedrooms are. Our stuff might not fit!

Did anyone take their sofas with them? Hubby doesn't think it's the thing to do, but I happen to really like ours. They're brown microfibre with these great funky brown "patchwork" leather cushions.

Bring everything that's in good nick, we brought our sofas and they're still going strong if a little scruffy now from all the moving houses we've done over here.

I so am hoping you're right about Ikea but bet it won't be on the South Island even if it does open a store up ... I'm not so keen on the ultra modern furniture but loved all the Ikea nik naks I could buy in the market place section.
