Ta Moko
Our recent trip to Tauranga included a visit to the Taniwha shop to expand my ta moko to include our daughter Elizabeth.
Moera doing the outlining
Tonihi doing the shading
This is a manaia, a being that straddles the spiritual and physical worlds and will protect Elizabeth from harm
This is all about Elizabeth with elements to represent weaving, to symbolise the weaving together of our family, and water and earth to tie into nature.
They're all lovely people and made us feel at home there. As before, karakia were recited before and after the work.
Will take better photos soon, now that it has healed.
It took about three and a half hours and now I know why tattoos don't go over the elbow. 2cm away was close enough for me!
