swimming in chch

Hi there

We are a family of 4 and we are moving out to chch in march 2010?

just a quick question, well 2 in 1 really,we have 2 daughters aged 4 and 8 and they both attend swimming lessons in uk once a week for 1/2 hour. They are both pretty good at it and like it a lot.We are just wondering what the availability of lessons in chch are like and what they cost per week as we are trying to budget a bit for this.

The next question is about brownies.Just wondered if chch has a lot of brownies classes and if they are under or over subscibed as they are here.thinking of getting them involved, if possible, so would be good to know.

thanks a lot

paul

All the info about charges you could need for the 4 main public pool complexes in Christchurch:

http://resources.ccc.govt.nz/files/S...tProgramme.pdf

(if the link above doesn't work for you - it's a .pdf file and I can't get it to open myself from my own link! - then go to:

http://www.centennial.org.nz/swimsmart.asp

and click on the link under the heading 'Timetable' which will you take you to it)

(There are other pool facilities in Chch offering lessons as well, but think you'd have to contact each individually to find out their charges. One place I've seen charges NZ$250 for 10 x 15-minute private one-on-one lessons and $300 for 10 x 20-minute lessons.Don't know what any of them would charge for group lessons...)

Hi there- I'm sure you'll be impressed with the standard of swim teaching here in NZ and it's generally incredibly affordable too. My 6 yr old has 40min lessons at the nearest private school with 4 other kids where the teacher is in the water with them. I pay $90 for a term. Totally different to pool side UK instructors- he holds her and guides her technique- she loves the lessons and the pool is outdoor and sparkling

As for Brownies (they're all Girl Guides here), just contact the local group through the NZ website and they'll be able to give you more info- both times we've done this in (and in Oz :o ) and our 11 yr old has been able to join straight away- second week in NZ she was in there- and they've really welcomed her

Here's the link straight to the join page- there's space on the form to explain and they promise to get back to you in 5 working days:

Hi and welcome

Depending where you stay in Chch there are plenty of decent swim schools, our 4 year old has been at the same one for two years now and is loving it and can swim by herself
