Super transfers Oz to NZ
Hi all. My Dad (NZ/Oz dual citizen) is moving to ChCh in the next few months and being aged 71 he has a few different super funds over here in Oz. Can anyone recommend a good adviser in ChCh to help him sort things out in the most tax-efficient manner possible? I've searched the forum but all the recommendations seem to be UK-NZ specialists, I guess not surprisingly. I know all the rules are meant to be changing this year so he needs some up-to-date guidance.

Does he have to transfer? Can't he leave his pension where it is?

As far as I know you cannot transfer your Super to NZ.
I moved from NZ to Oz last year, and last month I decided to query that situation in case we ever decide to move back to NZ and they generally don't release your super - until over 65 etc or for severe financial hardship (mind you each fund could have a different policy).
IN saying that, your dad is 71 so he should just be able to get it...ignore original statement. He should just be able to get it all paid out shouldnt he?
There ar etalks about enabling people to transfer from OZ into Kiwisaver but it hasnt happened yet.
