Summer is here - Mega rain hits Nelson and Bays.
I was wanting to visit a lovely friend of mine today who lives just up the road but decided against being away from home because the rain was so torrential. Mr BEVS was out on a building site somewhere & I'd heard there was trouble with rivers rising on the Appleby, which is one of our main roads in and out .

The Hobbit crew pulled out of Nelson early due to this weather. Just hope that Orlando Bloom had a great weekend in Mapua.

Weather in Auckland has ben crap for the past two weeks. Must be bad for the shops as well.

Yes, indeed been persisting down now for several days - got all the makings for grand conditions for all those going for the full on Kiwi traditional Xmas camping bogfest experience, next week.

Nelson made national news this evening. What news of up your way then?
Camping doesn't start until Dec 26th and after, so there is time yet for all the campers to enjoy their festive breaks.

People generally start emptying out of Auckland as soon as the kids finish school and for some that's already started this week.

I find that interesting as this area won't fill up until 26th and after. People head out after a trad Xmas with the family at home. Thats why we go to the beach if the weather is good. It's empty on Xmas Day but much more crowded on Boxing Day.

Been up to 30 deg down here for 2 days, hope it doesn't rain like that when we are there for a week in Jan !!!!

State of Emergency . Some people are evacuated and some cut off. Our area has been asked to conserve water.
The message is don't travel unless you really have to. Some of the roads are shut . I had planned to go to town but put it off because the road in and out would be prone to slips and fallen trees + rising river. Mr BEVS is out and about somewhere doing watery plumbing things.

Rain finally stopped. Father-in-law was evacuated yesterday (from his girlfriends house to ours!) and I will prob get a look at our house in the brook today. Tenant says there is some flood damage :-(. Took me nearly 2 hours to drive to work yesterday (10 min drive), oh well soon be Christmas

What a nightmare ~ hope there isn't too much damage, you don't to spend your Christmas holidays fixing up your homes.
