In my experience if there is anything they can do to make your experience with them stress free and easy the SLC will go to any lengths possible not to do it.

Looks like it'll be at least 10 more years before it expires, so no point mucking about, we just need to get it paid off. No disadvantage of paying extra unless they still demand a monthly payment after we pay a chunk of it off
Looks like the interest rate is going up from 1.9 to 3.1% later this year. Still a very cheap loan.

it was saying on there also that if you don't have to pay it off then don't, as the interest is so low it might be better to pay other things with higher interest rates off before hand.
