Stopping Smoking ... Again?!

Stopping Smoking ... Again?!
Arghhhh ...
So as some of you will remember, I stopped smoking successfully back in February and went 3 whole months without a fag - and got loads of support from people on here which was lovely.
Then the Law of Sod kicked in and we managed to end up socialising with loads of smokers and I indulged in the odd one, only to then find it was the odd 5, now back to pretty much pre-giving up intake again. I am soooo cross with silly self.
Now have decided that I am stopping for good this time. We are here, we are happy, we are not stressed out and we owe it to ourselves and our kids. (Note I am now saying "we" as this time I have darling hubby on side and committed to stopping too - which should make it much easier.)
So we have just ordered 28 days supply of Nicobrevin. Anyone used this or know about it? It's an aid to stopping smoking without being a nicotine replacement in the form of a daily tablet? This combined with some very gently exercise, must walk dogs on a daily basis and go on more bike rides as finally purchased helmet and went out with son yesterday and loved it. (Why does my backside not love it?!)
Any feedback on Nicobrevin would be ace?

Hi Caroline,
You'll do it this time don't worry, now you are all really settled and so happy, it will happen, the idea of the bike riding is good, but I so understand about your bum hurting, I always say to Tim, I'd like a good old tractor seat on a push bike, that would be much more comfortable, completely insane looking, but comfy, .
Anyway good luck again, will be thinking of you, will be in touch again soon, with hopefully better news from our side. I have some good news about Happy days nursery your little one went too here, so will P.M you soon.
xx

3 people at work all managed to quit using Chantix, www.chantix.com this month. They all swear by it. Chantix is a new drug (at least here in the US), I am not sure if its available in New Zealand - it may go under another brand name, so ask your healthcare provider.
I quit a couple of years ago, by moving to a remote ranch in Canada for 3 months . It wasn't the reason i went there, but I decided to quit whilst there - I knew a 15 mile drive on a graded road, then a 11 mile drive in to town would help me overcome moments of weakness
Prior to that I had tried Zyban (AKA Wellbutrin) , but it gave me horrible mood swings - scary stuff!
Good luck. You'll feel so much better if you manage it. I'm keeping my fingers crossed for you.

Zyban - Yuk! Tried that. Lovely stuff if you don't mind being off your face and high as a kite - no good for trying to work and bring up 2 kids though!
Tried patches, clear 24hr ones - was allergic to those, brought me out in huge red, itchy patches. Tried the pink ones, lower strength and 16hrs but still allergic to those.
Tried the gum next but as I hate chewing gum anyway just couldn't get on with that.
Tried the inhalator - that really took the edge of the craving and gave you the hit you miss on the back of your throat but it made me cough so much!
And its all so stupid! For 8 hours a day, when you're sleeping, you're a non-smoker. A lot of cigs are only smoked out of boredom and a lot, like first thing in morning and after meals aren't really enjoyed, just done out of habit. I got by on the long haul flights by risking a patch and taking the inhalator and if I'm in a place where you can't smoke, I don't miss it or crave one, as long as I'm busy.
But I still can't give up! Please let us know if the Nicobrevin works for you and how it works - is it a tablet like Zyban? Are there any side-effects? I think hypnosis is the only thing that'll work for me!

Right with you there. I tried Zyban and lost a week of my life - I just wasn't in control of my emotions, it really scared me. I stopped for 9 months that time as I was determined that I wasn't going to have gone through that for nothing.
I read Allen Carr's easy way to stop and that did me for a few months but I started backsliding. I went for hypnotherapy last May and have never looked back since. If I can get through the incredibly stressful process of emigration and still resist the temptation when pissed, I consider myself cured. And if I can do it, anyone can

If you don't bl**dy pack up by Xmas, they'll put you back on the plane and never let you in again!!!
Seriously, my DH tried several times to give up & failed badly, even managed to break his hand due to the stress of trying!!
He eventually gave up in March 2005. He found it easy to give up cos he was smoking roll ups by then & reckons that he went through the withdrawal stage when he came off the packet stuff; no chocolate, caffeine or other additives in rolling tobacco apparently
Whatever your method hun, I hope you manage this time, otherwise........

Yeah what Karonious hasn't said is the hypnotherapist turned her into a chicken so she spends most of the day pecking at the floor and has no time to light a fag
