Stopovers from UK to New Zealand
Common stopovers from UK to NZ appear to be LA, Singapore and Dubai. Has anyone done anywhere different. Where and which airline?

Yep - Malaysian airways and we stopped over in Langkawi. Very good it was too.
Heard recently that Virgin Atlantic were doing a stop over in Taihiti in conjunction with Air Taihiti, but not sure if you can do that flying out of the Uk, or if it's just from here to the Uk. Can't see why it shouldn't go both ways thou'.
This may say more:

(I know it says Oz but they fly to/from here too.)

New York (Virgin / Delta)
Alabama / Tennesee / Mississippi (Delta)
Hawaii (Air New Zealand),
Tonga (Air New Zealand)
Fiji (Air Pacific)
Hong Kong (Air New Zealand / Virgin)
Singapore (British Airways)
Langkawi and Kuala Lumpur (Malaysian)

The common ones you have listed are common because they are cheaper and less complicated. LA - major hub for Air NZ and Qantas, Singapore - major hub for Air NZ, Qantas and Emirates, Dubai - major hub for Emirates.
Go via the US if you want an enormous luggage allowance, go via asia if LAX airport stresses you.
Depends on what you want from a stopover. You can have anything from a night in a hotel through to an adventure.

Hiya, we did a few days in Hong Kong with Virgin, and did the new Disneyland over there and all the touristy bits cause I love HKG. Then down to Sydney again with Virgin cause we'd never been there. We loved it there and had a great few days with the kids swimming etc, then we flew Jetstar (cheap and very good) over to Christchurch. We had no jet lag when we arrived and had a great holiday on the way cause we knew we wouldn't be able to afford another one for a LONG time to come. One word of warning being that if you are hoping to get away with some excess baggage in London, dont forget you need to check the same luggage in at each sector, and dont buy any souvenirs at any of the destinations you visit...... we were very lucky and had nice people check us in and didn't get charged a cent.....

Hong Kong, which was great. LA which wasn't. Don't forget the FAR better luggage allowance when you travel via the US. 20kgs via Asia, 64kgs via the US.

Also been via Sydney again with Air NZ.
Singapore & Melbourne with BA/Quantas last Xmas (prefer Air NZ to BA).
I think you could route a lot of places, so it depends what takes your personal fancy, although the more popular routings can work out cheaper, but there is still a fair bit of choice.
Bon trip!

Ive gone from NZ to the Uk (in 2002) on Thai airlines via sydney and Bancock..I dont recommend Bancock..very basic transit lounges with horrible plastic seats and body searches before boarding the plane..plus they are absolutely paranoid about drug importation there.. etc.
Thai airlines itself was good though ..Ive never had a more smooth landing in my life..the pilots we had were amazing.
Ive done LA and Singapore as stopovers before and my favourite is Singapore.

Why not see how the kiwi;s return home.
Trans Siberian railway
Overland safaria from Cairo or Morroco to Capetown.
Crew through the Panama Canal and cross the pacific via Easter Island.
South America
Drive too Cairo via France/Italy/Greece/Cyprus car ferry to Cairo - dump the car (suggest an old banger) and jump on board a frieghter to Singapore - spend a few weeks/months in Asia and crew again for final leg.
I did a double deck trip from London to Kathmandu several years ago but would think with all the trouble that is no longer an option check with Top Deck.
