Re: Stephanie Key
Nyotaimori is actually an established art form you heathens.
It's historical origin is likely that of Japanese organised criminals who use the practise of covering sex slaves in food for their pleasure. It was however exceedingly rare until in the 1980's when Japanese corporate executives realised it was the perfect display of their affluence (isn't sex always?). Sometime after it came to the rest of us in the surge of contemporary Japanism of the early 2000's.
However this work is hardly ground-breaking or innovative is it? For me it lacks a certain homage to the origin of the art form, it’s fun and playful whereas the origins of the style where rooted in subservience of the performer in being a pure expression of beauty for the enjoyment of others. It’s disingenuous as performance IYSWIM.
