Default Sponsorship.

Hi all, can anybody settle an argument for me please? If you have sponsored your partner would they be entitled to any benefits whilst searching for work when you arrive in N.Z. I know iam ok with having Residency. Anyone any ideas? Thanks.

Are you talking about unemployment benefits and the like? If so, it doesn’t appear so in regards to unemployment. In fact, even if a permanent resident it appears that you have to be in the country as a permanent resident for two years.

The following is the link to the appropriate WINZ site:
http://www.winz.govt.nz/get-assistan...t-benefit.html
Briefly the requirements for the unemployment benefit are as follows:
• be a New Zealand citizen or permanent resident
• have continually lived in New Zealand for two years or more at any one time since becoming a New Zealand citizen or permanent resident (except refugees with permanent residence)
• normally live in New Zealand
• not be working full-time, but actively looking for a full-time job and able to start work now.

Oh, and I have no idea about childcare subsidies...
