All we need now is an Ikea, and an Argos, and I'm in heaven!

I heard Argos are struggling to make money in the UK, so it might be a while before they set up downunder.

Ikea were going to open but didn't receive the required permission due to the worries about them creating too much traffic around their proposed site.

Do we really need Argos and their catalogue of dreams?

Well it would be if you don't need to wear glasses and haven't had to pay $600 a pair of glasses in NZ.

They did not worry about that when they opened the one in Warrington. Built the store first then a motor-way to years after.

Are glasses expensive then? I've been pricing up laser eye surgery and wondered if if was worth it. How much are nice glasses?

I wear glasses and daily contact lenses, at $45 for a box of 30, I think that is not too bad...and I would pay $500 for my hair so $600 for new glasses aren't bad, and its what i expected in Nz anyway... but I will just use my frames ive got...:)

My husband has just ordered new glasses from Specsavers in the UK.

If he had new lens in his own frames £90

1 new pair including lens with 30% off £91

Buy 1 pair get 1 free £130:confused:

Yes and at least it will make the other opticians sit up and think about what they are charging when specsavers do great deals.

I don’t understand why anyone would call a thread stupid :frown:

Surely all competition is helpful no matter where it comes from to increase customer choice, put downward pressure on prices and increase quality. I recognise that overseas brands and chains opening up in New Zealand might not be everyone’s panacea but if you don’t like the brand, don’t frequent the stores. If enough people feel that way then market forces will do the rest (for example Starbucks in Australia). ……and whilst I’m at it, surely all discussion is healthy, anyway
